Robert G. Rodriguez
has been engaged in the financial services industry
for over 30 years. Prior to founding his own
company, Mr. Rodriguez was a partner at a regional
investment banking firm where he was responsible for
the coordination of activities for the State of
Texas.
In 1983 Mr. Rodriguez established
Southwestern Capital Markets, Inc. (SCM) in San
Antonio for the express purpose of providing
financial services to public agencies, districts and
authorities at the local and state level. In his
role as President & CEO of SCM for the past 25
years, Mr. Rodriguez has overseen and coordinated
all of the firm’s activities as underwriter or
financial advisor on taxable and tax-exempt
municipal bond transactions for issuers in Texas,
California, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Florida. SCM
started as an advisor to municipalities, assisting
with the structuring of debt issues and financial
planning. After the Securities and Exchange
Commission approved the firm’s broker/dealer license
in 1985, SCM began serving on underwriting
syndicates in municipal bond transactions and became
the first Hispanic-owned investment banking firm in
the United States. Later that same year, Mr.
Rodriguez was named Hispanic Businessman of the Year
at the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce national
convention in Puerto Rico.
He has previously served on the Board as Treasurer
for the 100 Club of San Antonio, on the Board of
Trustees for Our Lady of the Lake University, on the
Board of Directors for Cibolo Canyons Special
Improvement District, on the Board as Treasurer for
the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute,
a member of the Board of
the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau,
a member of the City of Houston Planning Commission,
a Board member of the Houston Housing Authority, and
served as Executive Director of the Houston Economic
Development Corporation. Mr. Rodriguez is
currently a member of the Rotary Club of San
Antonio, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of
Commerce, the Sons of the Republic of Texas, Knights
of Columbus, Fourth Degree, Chairman of the Board
for the Southlake Public
Improvement District, and a member of the
Board of the University of
Houston Center for Mexican American Studies.
After serving in the U.S. Army Special
Troops, USAREUR Command Group, Mr. Rodriguez
received his B.B.A. in Finance and International
Business from the University of Houston and his
C.M.B. from Northwestern University. Mr. Rodriguez
is married with three children and a beautiful
granddaughter.
Mr. Rodriguez serves on the Alamo RMA Finance
Committee.
