Appointed by Bexar County Commissioner Precinct 4
Current Term Expires February 1, 2012

Los Angeles Weekly called him San Antonio's “wunderkind”, Gardner Selby from the Austin-American Statesmen called him “one to watch” in Texas politics, and Matthew Continetti from the Weekly Standard Magazine called him the “most passionate” anti-slavery advocate in America.

Tommy Calvert, Jr. is an internationally recognized social marketing leader and modern-day abolitionist. He currently is the president of Calvert International Consulting, a public relations firm founded in 2002.

For two years, Calvert lead the American Anti-Slavery Group, America's leading human rights organization fighting slavery and genocide worldwide, and helped make the issues household names.

Calvert was asked by Bill O'Reilly to go on the O'Reilly Factor and expose global inaction toward the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. That interview is recognized as the tipping point that put Darfur on the front pages of international newspapers.

In 2006, Calvert became the first African-American in South Texas to run for the United States Congress.

Calvert also helped found San Antonio Community Radio, Inc., 91.7-HD2 KROV and serves as its General Manager to restore the voice of African-Americans and others underserved on San Antonio radio.
