Alamo RMA starts Traffic and Revenue Study for improvements to Loop 1604 and US 281

(San Antonio, Texas) – The Alamo Regional Mobility Authority (Alamo RMA) is starting a traffic and revenue study along Loop 1604, from US 90 to IH 35 on the northeast part of Bexar County, and along US 281 from Loop 1604 to the Bexar / Comal County line, as part of its efforts to help address needed congestion relief projects within our community.

Starting on Friday, October 14, 2011, consultants working for the Alamo RMA will begin placing traffic count tubes across the Loop 1604 and US 281 corridors, and roadways that move traffic into both of these corridors. On Tuesday, October 18, 2011 and Wednesday, October 19, 2011 crews will be along Loop 1604 and US 281 at seven different sites to ask questions of drivers using the corridor, when stopped at red lights. The traffic survey crews will be wearing safety equipment, locations will be clearly marked, and all protections will be taken to ensure the safety of the driving public and the crews in the field.

“This study is an effort to learn more about travel patterns in and around San Antonio on these two major roadways,” said Terry Brechtel, Executive Director of the Alamo RMA. “This is a chance for every day users of these roadways to let us know their perception of traffic and travel time, and also the value they place upon their time each day.”

Additionally, starting on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, motorists in and around the area who use Loop 1604 or US 281 are being invited to take part in an online survey as part of this study as well. The survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete, and is available online at www.AlamoRMA.org by clicking on the “San Antonio Travel Survey” link. This survey will remain active until the end of November.

“We encourage everyone who uses these two corridors to take a few minutes and participate in the online survey, and for those drivers who may be asked to participate in the field surveys on October 18th and 19th, we will do all we can to make those as quick and easy to answer so you aren’t delayed any further on your daily drives,” said Brechtel.
