US 281 Environmental Impact Statment

On October 1, 2008, the Federal Highway Administration and the Texas Department of Transportation withdrew all prior environmental clearances for any long-term improvements to US 281 north of Loop 1604.

As a result of that action, the Alamo RMA has taken the lead in preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), for US 281 and will, over the next three to five years, be working closely with the community to prepare the most comprehensive analysis ever conducted on the US 281 corridor.

The US 281 EIS study corridor starts north of Loop 1604, and continues to just north of Borgfeld Road by the  Bexar / Comal county line, as shown in the map below.

For specific boundaries of the US 281 EIS - please visit the official EIS pages.

The Alamo RMA has entered into a contract with Jacobs Engineering to lead the EIS study and is estimating all necessary study work to be complete by mid-2012.
