Henry R. Muñoz , III is a highly successful entrepreneur, a leader of an award-winning design firm, a cultural activist, and a well-respected philanthropist. Mr.
Muñoz is Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Kell
Muñoz Architects, Inc., the largest minority-owned architectural firm in Texas. Under his leadership, the firm has grown significantly in both size and reputation.
Mr. Muñoz is the leader of an award-winning design firm. Under Mr. Muñoz ’s guidance, Kell
Muñoz Architects has placed its design emphasis on exploring an emerging architectural vision for South Texas. Mestizo Regionalism incorporates into design the unique history, traditions, and cultural evolution of the people of the Texas/Mexico Borderlands.
Mr. Muñoz is an active civic leader. He was the founding president of Texas Public Radio and has served in virtually every leadership position within the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. Previously, Mr.
Muñoz served as a commissioner of the Texas Department of Transportation, as well as other state appointed commissions.
Mr. Muñoz is a philanthropist. He has raised over $2 million in scholarships for young people, including over $1 million for the UTSA Downtown Campus Scholarship Initiative.
Mr. Muñoz sits on the Board of Trustees of his alma mater Loyola University in New Orleans. Most recently, he was asked to join Members of the U.S. Congress, as a Director of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.
In 1995 at the request of city leaders, Mr. Muñoz accepted the tremendous responsibility of spearheading the capital campaign to restore the legendary Alameda Theatre, a cultural icon for Latinos throughout the United States. Under his leadership, The Alameda has expanded its mission to include the first ever-formal affiliation with the Smithsonian Institution. The museum is predicted to be the most visited museum of its kind in the United States.
The honors that have been bestowed upon Mr. Muñoz are far too many to list, but a few of the more treasured ones include his selection in 1988 by the San Antonio Express News as one of the fourteen community leaders shaping the future of the city; the Profiles in Leadership Award; Philanthropist of the Year Award 2000; the Leadership San Antonio Alumni of the Year Award; People of Vision 2001. In 2002, Mr.
Muñoz was one of fifteen business people selected nationally for Entrepreneur of the Year recognition by Hispanic Business Magazine.
Mr. Muñoz serves as Chair of the Alamo RMA Finance Committee.
